I have the chance to buy a....
MSI GT80S Titan $800
win10 home
32gb Ram
256GB SSD 1TB HDD @ 7200 RPM
GTX980m x2 SLI
INTEL i7-6700
No scratches and works good

OR

Alienware 17 R4 $1000
Intel i7-8750H
16GB Ram
Nvidia GTX 1070
256GB SSD + 1TB HDD
Win10 home (Guess)
1 Scratch where he plugs his headphones into it.

Any help greatly appreciated. I have a budget of $1000 max and want as good a laptop as I can. I would like a 17" screen and good GPU.....so other suggestions welcome :)
Thanks in advance.

Solution

Comparable new ones start @ $1500, so yes $1000 is a good price.

Alienware has the better cpu 6c12t vs 4c8t

MSI has more ram but 16Gb is plenty for gaming, so if gaming is the primary goal I's call it a wash

MSI has the slightly faster GPU solution, but only in games with good SLI support in games with poor or no SLI support the 1070 is quite a bet better.

I'd get the(I'm going to hate myself for saying this) Alienware. The better CPU and lack of SLI(support for it seems to be dwindling) means it should holdup better with newer games.
