[citation][nom]the_krasno[/nom]Wait a sec! I thought REHABILITATION was the fundamental aspect of it! After all, it makes more sense to make them think about what they've done than to punish them for it and making them hold a grudge against society. The main reason ex-cons fall back to their old habits is because the prison didn't offer an adequate place to change, to REDEEM themselves and be proper citizens.US has the highest percentage of its population in jail of the entire planet. What is the reason? Better detective work and justice? Or just lousy prisons and unreasonable laws?[/citation]

my point exactly , punishment with out reflection just generates more of the same actions /atitudes. it'sliek teh kid with teh cookie jar , you jsut spank his hand and say NO , he will most likely get back into it later jsut not get caught next time , however if you catch him , and tell him how eating to many cookies will make him or her a fat cow .. the kid mostlikely will think trwice before gettign in that cookie jar

[citation][nom]quadibloc[/nom]I don't know how to judge the claim that it encouraged gang-related activity, but it is true that a game of D&D brings a bunch of prisoners together, so it could be used as a cover for planning an escape attempt or the type of activity in question.[/citation]

I don't buy that at all. They could have the same meeting at meals or in the exercise yard.

Sledgehammer? A lifetime D&D player should have found a +3 Vorpal Sword by now. Why would he use some cheap hardware he probably found on a low level cleric?

Give him the damn game. Influence gang activity? Sure Criminals should be punished(though he sounds like he isn't even a lost cause...system is farked.), but if being able to pass the rest of his days though text adventures keeps him from feeling the need to escape, or even REALLY turn him into a murderer, give it to him. Some stuff just doesnt make sense.
