My acer laptop hdd indicator is always lit

Hi, I have a Acer Aspire i7 2630 QM laptop. The HHD active indicater light is always on, is this normal?

No.

Is it on for hours at a time? Is your anti-virus doing a continual scan? Have you tried defraging the hard drive since a fragmented hard drive means it takes longer to read/write data?

The light is on all the time, even with anti virus turned off. The computer is only 2 weeks old and apart from the light being always on, seems to work fine. The light doesn't flicker at all, it's continuous, like the power on indicater light.

It could just be something as simple as a bad indicator light. Can you tell if the hard drive is continually spinning?

Try going into power management and have the hard drive turn off after 5 minutes or so. Let the laptop sit for 6+ minutes (just to be sure), then access your hard drive you should be able to hear it spin up. If the light stay lit during the time the hard drive was turned off and you can hear the hard drive spin up, then it's just a bad indicator light.

Tried that, HDD carries in spinning.

Maybe it's too little to late, but I have the same problem on my Acer Aspire 5750G. The led will stay always on, in my case, when I have an SD card inserted in SD card reader.
