It could be the port, or the card. Have you tried more than one card? And are you certain that the cards you are trying are readable by other devices?

Side note: It is better to leave a SD card in a device (phone, tablet, camera, etc.,) and hook the device up to the computer via USB cord, rather than removing it from the device and placing it in the computer. Doing so can damage the card and/or the device over time.

You might also want to check that there is nothing in the port. Dust, debris, etc. Be careful what you stick in the port to clean it out (if done that way) as to not bend anything inside.

In the end, if the card port won't read any cards (not just one) at all and cleaning it out doesn't help, the port itself may need...
