my dell vostro wont turn on

Hi, I am using a dell vostro v131. It powers on with the AC adapter and charges the battery. When I pull out the charger while it is still on it works perfectly with the charged battery. However, if I turn it off the battery cannot turn the laptop on unless i connect the AC back. I need help ASAP

That laptop is about 5 years old, very likely the battery needs to be replaced. I would bet that when you unplug it while it runs on the battery it probably doesn't last very long, because its not putting out enough power.

Thanks but I replaced the battery with one that can last over 3 hours in another laptop but the problem still persists

Have you tried pulling and then re-inserting the battery? From what I know this could indicate a mainboard issue.

Ok, unfortunately you may be better served on the Dell forums for such a specific question. I can't find any information further than I've asked you about. Someone with experience with this particular laptop may chime in, but your chances are likely higher in the Dell forums.

have you tried a hard reset by removing main battery, disconnect power adapter, hold the power button down for 20 count, put battery back in, reconnect power adapter & turn on laptop?

I tried that trick too but it didn't work.
