My internal mic isnt working

I have an acer aspire one, windows xp
My internal mic all the sudden won't work, or if it does itll be for a short time, wil be very quite and will be VERY distorted.
What can i do to fix it?

Apart from stripping the Netbook down (expensive) I would just get a USB Sound card/dongle...they are under £10/$10
