my laptop acer cannot read SD Adapter when connected in memory slot

When i connect the SD adapter into my laptop memory slot,my laptop is not reading at all...

I would try a different USB slot. On one of my notebooks, sometimes I have to plug in the USB devices a few times to get them working.
