My laptop doesn't recognize the native screen, only external monitor showing up

This is for a Toshiba c640 laptop.

My laptop only displays only on external monitor.

Here is info about this problem:

- Display on laptop flickers on start up
- Display on laptop is not completely blank, it emits light
- Had this problem before months ago, and it resolved itself
- Laptop screen doesn't show up in multiple displays
- When pressing F5 , the laptop doesn't toggle between laptop and external monitor

The external display cable works both with HDMI and VGA cable, this happened before, then it got better on it's own, but this time I have been travelling, and the laptop may have suffered some shock, could it have come loose again?

sorry if i wasn't clear, by VGA cable i mean the internal ribbon cable connecting the display and the motherboard also do you get any horizontal or vertical line on the native display?

No lines, and it worked perfectly yesterday, I had the same behavior about 6 months ago, and it went away on it's own...!

Go to a darker place where there is no light and see if you can see the desktop or log in screen on the laptop, some laptop allows the screen to be extremely dimmed with a key press.

Actually did that, windows icon suddenly showed up...but now spinning around...but not starting, but screen works indeed!....wtf? !

yeah, there will be a function key (fn +f) press the function key and the respective f key (f1,f2.... etc) to un-dim the display. I'm glad i was of some help.(please do reply ASAP, i 'm curious)
