My computer is a Gateway LT41P, Windows 8 operating system. I got it about a year ago, and I downloaded World of Warcraft. It ran perfectly for a month, before it started lagging pretty harshly. I haven't been able to get the computer to run PC games smoothly since then. What should I do?

Solution
The first step is to do a complete backup on to an external hard disk. Then make a Windows repair CD/DVD (All this is part of Control Panel, Backup & Restore).

Computers, laptops included, when new contain a lot of "bloatware'. This is done by the manufacturers for advertising purposes thereby keeping costs down. The first think to do is to get rid of this bloatware.

PC Decrapifier - Manufacturers often install trial programs and other "extras" on new computers. For the most part, this bloatware just slows down the system until it's removed. http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/

CCleaner - Anything you do on your computer leaves a trace somewhere. These can be small registry entries, a full browser history or multi-gigabyte temporary...

CCleaner - Anything you do on your computer leaves a trace somewhere. These can be small registry entries, a full browser history or multi-gigabyte temporary files. https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner (the latest version was released a few days ago - I installed it this morning)

Defraggler - You may have your files organized in tidy folders, but the underlying file system can still be messy. Parts of files can be scattered all over your computer, which makes your computer sluggish. https://www.piriform.com/defraggler (Windows has a built-in defrag tool that is good). If you decide to install Defraggler, make sure you uncheck the box that confirms deletion of Windows defrag tool.

Start-up programs. Delete start-up programs that you will not use right away after the computer starts. Go to Start>>All Programs>>Startup. Any programs or files in this folder will start when you turn your computer on. Simple delete the program or file icon to stop it from starting.

After doing these steps please let us know the results.
