My memtest86 says halting after 15% scan on my presario v2036ap laptop

Hi everyone,
I have a v20336ap presario laptop. There is problem in installing as all kinds of errors pop up some leading to the death blue screen. after going through some articles I wanted to test it for RAM. I downloaded the windows memtest and it gave "failed " results. However, I came across this memtest 86+ which is said to be a good tested for RAM. so I have made memtest86+ 3.5 bootable Cd to test. It boots correctly, goes to the 4 menu options and automatically starts. But within seconds it says interrupted - halting and kinda hangs. I have tried the 3.4 v too but the same thing happens everytime.Why is this so?
Do you advise that I should accept the windows test as enough to change the RAM?

If you were getting failed tests on a previous test with another program and the hanging on version 3.5, I'd say that the memory is probably shot. You could try removing one stick and then running the test to see if both sticks or just one stick is bad so you do not have to spend as much.
