my pc is running windows xp pro

but when I switch it on it goes to a blue screen with hp logo in the middle no curser no start menu no desktop on the bottom it has esc f1 and f10 even though I have got through to these I don't know what to do all it seems to do on each one is press enter and the arrow goes up or down on various settings but I cant see anything that will allow me to reboot any ideas please

can you get into the BIOS and see if it recognizes the hard drive?

are any USB devices attached besides KB and Mouse? if so disconnect them and try booting the system.
