My predator17 froze so I tried to force shut down but it wouldn't do it. So I unplugged power and let the battery run down. This morning I pressed a paperclip in the battery reset button for 5 seconds and then plugged the power in and tried to turn it on. The laptop started but with a black screen. So i force shut it down and that turned it off. So after research I unplugged it and held the battery reset again, this time I held the power button in as well for 30 seconds to rid the laptop of any residual power. Then plugged it back in and tried to turn it on again with the same result: laptop turns on but with black screen. Any suggestions?

Solution
That is a good idea. Anything further would require opening it up and that can void your warranty. Better to let them fix it, and then no cost to you.
Try this...

1. Turn the laptop off (not sleep or hibernate but off).
2. Connect an external monitor to the laptop.
3. Turn on the external monitor.
4. Turn on the laptop.

NOTE: You may have to press an "external monitor" button. Could be the f4 button or a button with two monitors on it, for the external monitor to work.

If you can see fine on the external monitor, then your attached display, or the ribbon cable that connects it, are your problem.

If you can't see on the external monitor at all, or the problem occurs on the external monitor as well, then it is probably the graphics card/GPU that is the problem, which may require the motherboard be replaced.

Thankyou but no... didn't work. I plugged it into an external monitor and got black screen there too. I've decided to send it away for repairs as it's under warranty.
