My SMART TV, Samsung, won't connect to my VGA Computer?

I have Optiplex GX620 Computer. It only has VGA. It does not have Htmi cable.

So I Bought an Adapter. I plug my VGA Cord from Computer to Adapter, adapter to TV. I -hear- my computer picks it up. However... TV doesn't show anything.

TV has Source button.. but I cant force it to go to any sort of Htmi channel.

Why is this not working for me? I am getting so frustrated.

I know the cord works. I also know the TV knows HTMI plug in is there, because when I restart computer it shows me.

But it gives me no option... to switch to htmi.

My TV doesn't have VGA plug but has HTMI.
MY CPU doesnt have HTMI but it has VGA.

All i want is to use my new tv as my monitor. This was the main purpose I bought the TV.
Am I better off returning it and getting a new one?

I just dont understand why this is happening. I've never had a problem connect a Tv to my computer.

Im like... done with this Tv... I've had it a week and have spent hours trying to get it to work with Computer.

Am I better off taking it back and buying a tv with (VGA output?)

Or is it my computers fault? Do I needed a newer Computer that has htmi?

It's not similar to hdmi to vga.
Converting digital to analog does not work when needing to convert analog to digital.

I have spent hours upon hours... Driving to store after store... and no one has helped me.

So you believe my computer should be able to handle my smart TV? As long as I have the converter box?

I just want to confirm this would be the last thing I need. Because I was about to send the TV back today.

Yes. But take care when choosing the converter. Not all of them do support 1080p, or work as advertised. Check the reviews.

Is there any way around this? Do i need to switch out tv? Is there a quicker solution?

The TV is smart enough to know there is no HDMI signal coming through that cable becaue of the connection at the laptop end. Sorry but I think you'll have to buy a more modern laptop.

VGA is analog
HDMI is digital
which adapter, you need an active converter. an active converter has DAC (Digital to analogue converters) to convert the signal so it can be interpreted at the other end.
