my tv has sound but when I connect the dvd player no sound comes out

My phillips tv has sound on tv but when I try to connect the dvd player there is no sound , just picture

How are you connecting the two, HDMI, something else? Does the TV work OK with any other source on those connections? Need some details about models and connections you are using. If you are using separate cables make sure the audio out on the DVD player is in the right audio in ports on the TV.

If you connected the DVD to the TV with
HDMI - check that the audio is set to output over HDMI in the DVD set up menu.
Composite video (1 yellow RCA) or component video (3 RCA) - Did you also connect a left and right audio cable?
