You can see the performance of almost all of the notebook GPU's here:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Graphic-Cards.130.0.html

I find this laptop a good bang for the bucks deal. Eventhough the GPU is not as great as the one you wanted plus the CPU is a little bit underpowered. This one is less bulky also.

A notebook with ATI Mobility Rdeon HD 3870 X2 would be at least 17" big which is too bulky for my taste.

Here is a notebook that I found with a better GPU than the MSI one.

By the way... the ATI Mobility Rdeon HD 3870 X2 consumes 110watts.

In a desktop, fanism is great, and lots of people do it, and it's just fine. But in notebooks, I don't think that its very appropriate, especially considering that performance isn't the only aspect you're looking for. Size, weight, battery life all factor in too - and there, AMD products fall severely short. Notebooks are also a heck of a lot more expensive than desktops. I'd rather pay for something that will perform better with better battery life. I understand you like AMD products, but considering the massive power draw of the X2 and its lower level of performance...it's just rather stupid to get.
