So I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad 300 17" as a budget laptop for internet, office apps and light gaming, and I intend to use it at home. However I'm undecided if I should keep this laptop and upgrade to a better budget laptop. I should mention I'm a high school student.

Lenovo IdeaPad 300 (bought from http://goo.gl/SOglLY )
Bought From/Price: $280 (open box)
OS: Windows 10
CPU: Intel Core i3-6100U
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 520
Resolution: 1600x900
RAM: 4GB (planning to upgrade it)
Storage: 500GB HDD (planning to upgrade it)
Usage: Internet, Office, Light Gaming, Home
Battery Life (estimation): 4 hours

What I Want
Budget: <$450
Size: Any but I strongly prefer a number pad
Screen Resolution: HD and better
Desktop Replacement Laptop
Gaming: I don't need to game on my laptop; but if I can, light gaming is fine
Battery: No preference, its a home laptop anyways
Preferred Site: Best Buy (Easiest for me to access) any site is fine though
Storage: Any, I can upgrade it myself.
Planning on keeping the laptop for 3 years before upgrading
No need for optic drive
No preferred brands
I'd rather have Windows OS than Mac OS

Also this is the other budget laptop I was keeping my eye on. http://goo.gl/ErDf4J

So what do you guys think, should I keep my current Lenovo or should I look for something different? If you don't have any laptop in mind, according to info about me, should I go for i3 or i5 processor.

Thanks for reading and helping out.

In that price range, buying anything else would MAYBE give a negligible upgrade over what you have. The i5's available in that price range are pretty much equivalent to your current i3.

Hope that helps. If you have any other questions or need clarification, just ask.
