I currently have a laptop more than 6 years old it's a Toshiba Core i5 2nd gen, 6gb ram, Nvidia 1gb dedicated graphics card. I use the laptop for office documents, browsing online and reading PDF with the rare light gaming sessions. The laptop is doing okay for my needs with some noise from the fan (not that disturbing). I'm planning on getting an SSD now to speed it up and probably buy a new laptop after a year or should i buy a new laptop now considering it's age though i don't want to spend money now.

Solution
If you don't want to spend much money now, and the laptop is doing what you want it to other than general responsiveness, then an SSD is a good upgrade.

Realistically, you could always move an SSD forward to a new laptop in time...

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. I will wait until January to see if 1TB samsung SSD price will drop to 100$ if not i'll just get the 500gb.
