Hi, I am trying to find a simple, decent way to play my music from my laptop/phone in my living room. I don't require the perfect sound - just a basic, not too expensive way to connect some bookshelf speakers to my laptop/iphone. I have been looking for a small amplifier but have no idea what I am looking for. Could you recommend something / give me some advice on how to do this simply and elegantly. Thank you.

If you know what the model number of your bookshelf system is, or what kind of input it has, I could easily help. Typically, you will have either an RCA (aka the red and white pin plugs) or 3.5mm (aka your standard headphone jack) auxiliary input on the receiver. Just find a cable where one end fits your phone/laptop (typically 3.5mm), and the other matches the input of your bookshelf receiver (typically 3.5mm or RCA). Plug in both ends while the unit is off, power on your system, and adjust both volumes until you find the optimal sound for you.
