I have an MSI Dominator Pro 17' gaming laptop. I modified it with Intel Core i7-4930MX, 768GB RAID 0 (3 x Samsung PM851 256GB mSATA SSD), Kingston HyperX 32GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1866MHz, etc. (Running Windows 7 Pro)

My problem is that it runs HOT! I just had my computer cleaned and Silicon MX4 applied. It dropped the heat down some, but when I play ESO the 4 cores in my CPU are averaging 85C and running up to a max of 93C. That's after I put brand new thermal paste!

Does anyone have any ideas how to lower this overheating problem?

I need the best laptop cooler pad; money is no object.

Do, I need to drill holes in the bottom of my laptop?

Do I need to use a different thermal paste?

Do I need to live in a freezer?

Thanks! (This is my baby, so thank you so much for your help!)

I applied Silicone MX4. Will buy the Cooler Master NotePal U3 PLUS.

Can see how that effects temp. The thermal paste already brought the temp down between 41C & 44C idle.

If there are no vents on the underside of the laptop, then getting a cooling pad will not be of much help. Drilling holes is not a good idea because that will instantly void the warranty.

You will need to look at cooling fans that can be connected to the side vent to help lower the temperature. I have no experience with them, but below is an example.

If your laptop exhausts hot air out the back of the laptop rather than the side, then the above laptop cooler may not work. I suppose it depends on how thick the laptop is and how adjustable the clamp is.

The main issue with the MSI GT70 Dominator (I own one) line is the inadequate cooling solution. One fan for both CPU and GPU, instead of a separate fan for each. The laptop draws air in through the vents in the bottom, and exhausts the hot air out vents both on the back and side of the laptop.
