Need help choosing reliable anti virus software

I am having a problem with my Kaspersky 2012 anti virus software. I downloaded the trial yesterday on my laptop and this morning it tells me it has expired. When I did a Google search, I still have the "K" marks next to certain sites (is this normal and if not how do I go about resolving this?)

Is there a more reliable anti software than what I am currently using?

I would sincerely appreciate your best recommendations for a full coverage paid anti virus software program.

I swear by AVAST paid anti-virus. It has never let me down. I used it in combination with Malwarebytes anti-malware (paid). Nothing has gotten through this combination in over two years of aggressive surfing.
