Need help entering recovery drive on gateway mx 8738

i know its possible - i have done it before on this laptop. i just need to know the key combos! thank you in advance

"The way to restore Gateways is to hold down the ALT Key and repeatedly hitting f10 then it should bring you to a boot sequence screen then choose the HDD and then hold down ALT and repeatedly hit f10 again that should promt the restore feature for gateway."

tried this but it didnt work. also did i mention it ran windows vista but i put windows 10 on it - i know that was stupid - now its slow.
