Solution
- If you want a very inexpensive but still decent laptop, then consider the following 15.6" Acer laptop for $350. Core i3-7100u, 4GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive and 1080p screen. I recommend you spend $47 for a stick of 4GB DDR4 RAM to increase to a total of 8GB of RAM for better overall performance.

- For $499, following 15.6" ASUS VivoBook F510UA is what I actually recommend you buy. It has a 8th generation (recently released) quad core i5-8250u CPU, 1080p IPS screen, 8GB RAM, and 1TB hard drive. Also has a fingerprint reader. There is an empty RAM slot if you want to install another stick of RAM and a m.2 slot if you want to install a m.2 SSD. The has a "NanoEdge Display" which is Asus' fancy name for a display with a very thin bezel (similar to Dell's "Infinity Display" in their XPS 13 and XPS 15" laptops). This means the laptop is about the size of an average 14" laptop so it is smaller and lighter (3.7lbs) compared to your typical 15.6" laptop.
