Need help in chosing a camera

I have been looking at all the review sites and have become very
confused. It appears that it comes down to if you got it then it has
to be the best.

I am looking for fast turn on speed, zoom and antishake

These are the cameras in considertaion. Any help would be appreciated.

what about theNikon 8700 Coolpix
Sony DSC-F828
Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200

I will be taking family pics and really am not a serious photographer.
I do take a lot of pics of my parrots who are fast moving so when I
see a shot I need the camera to turn on fast and have fast continuous
shots as I get them in flight.

I used to have an Olympus C3000 and it was very slow and really did
not give me what I wanted.

Any help would be appreciated. I would post more but really don't know
what to tell you.

Of those, the 828 has the best (bright light) AF times and turn-on
time.

However, it has a problem with purple fringing on silhouetted images,
and of course that sounds just like what you will be shooting... You
are asking a lot of any prosumer camera and maybe should widen your
search to a DSLR.

If you are determined to go prosumer, perhaps include the Panasonic
DMC-FZ20 in your considerations as it has a very long lens and
anti-shake.. `Only` 5Mp and slow startup, but pretty fast AF, and a
very good camera indeed.

By the way, the 828 does not have antishake, nor does the 8700, I
think..

The Dimage has the anti -shake that works very well. The whole camera
performs solidly see the review

More than good enough for family pics as for the parrots.. treat them as
any moving target and pay attention to aperture/shutter speeds. The A200
will easily cope with that. I use mine for shooting the kids on horses.
Consider though the limit of 3 frames on continuous, which for me ( show
jumping etc ) is ok but your req may be different. I budgeted for a DSLR
but ended up with the A200 for all round use and easy portability. A
skylight, tripod, spare battery and a big memory card is all I need out
in the field.

Thank you all for the replies. I think it might come down to the
Dimage based on the above message. Although the reviews say that it is
slow to turn on and slow between shots. Is this true?

OK; for a UK version turn on time is press the button and away you go,
its ready at a press how quick do you need it?. Mine has a 1 GB card and
there is no noticeable difference whatever capacity is available.
Between shots is debatable, it really depends on settings. On normal
daytime use you will be hard pushed to be ahead of the shots, change the
setings then I suggest you read the manual you will find the basics of
photoghraphy. If you want to be creative the A200 will let you. For the
A200 though 3 fps is the most you will get on continous plus abour 3-5
seconds process time (depending on settings ) that's my experience doing
horses.

The A200 will shoot your parrots without a problem , it will return
stunning pics but you will have to do some work to contribute. Go off P
or A mode and select A or S and find the right setting. Give it some
thought and you could really show your DSLR mates right up.
