need help w dell laptop

Why does my laptop running Vista when turned on screen goes blank instead of going to desktop until I hitctrl,alt,del then I have to start new task explorer.exe to get to desktop then within a minute all the processes start ending 1 by 1 till none left then it automatically shuts down?
