Need help with my microphone setup. Tech noob here.

I recently bought a lapel microphone and weirdly enough it won't work on my desktop. The computer can detect the microphone but no audio is getting picked up by the mic. I tested the mic on my laptop and it works fine so I'm assuming my desktop has the problem. I tried plugging it in the headphone port (using the adapter that came with the lapel mic) yet still nothing but my headset (with the adapter) works fine on it though. Any suggestions?

Did you plug the mic into the pink mic input jack on the desktop?
Plugging the mic into the green headphone jack won't work. Your laptop probably has a shared headphone/mic jack.

Yes I did plug it in the pink one I even tried plugging it on the green one with a splitter still nothing.

Many audio designers have decided that the Mic port should also function as an alternative speaker port. Speaker ports send audio out. Mic's listen for audio coming in. Make sure (if you have this setting) it is set to the microphone.

I'm not quite sure how to check what you're describing, I'm not very good with computers but all i know is that in my control panel under hardware and sounds and manage audio devices on the recording tab my pc detects the mic. How do I check if my setting is on microphone?
