need help with new tablet

I purchased a new android tablet of the net and it wont let me turn it on without it being plugged into the wall. I have fully charged it as it had no battery power when I got it. It works when it is plugged into the wall but as soon as I unplug it I cant turn it on. What can I do???

Possibly a dead/defective battery? If you got it new, it'd probably be easiest to just take it back to the store and get an exchange.
