Jun 22, 2016
Hi all,

I am looking to buy a new laptop with minimum 8 GB RAM and 500 GB to 1 TB HDD. I would be using the laptop mostly for college work (Word processing, crunching numbers using numeric keypad, watching movies, viewing pdfs, applying for jobs etc etc) and sometimes for gaming (these may include Sims 4 and GTA V).. I've owned an acer in the past (the hinges and screen broke) and an asus (the power jack broke so i am unable to charge/use it), toshiba (wont work without a charger plugged in lol)

Some stuff is answered as follows:

1. What is your budget?

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
13-18 inches

3. What screen resolution do you want?
Full HD/4K/1980x1080

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

5. How much battery life do you need?
The more the better.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Medium to high gaming (sims 4 in high and gta v in medium to high)

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Finance and accounting, word processing, web browsing and movie watching

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
500 GB +

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
For next 4 years.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
Preferred include- Dell, Lenovo, HP
Not preferred- Acer, Toshiba, Asus

13. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
Need a laptop that wont die out on me. Also are SSDs helpful for casual work

Apologies for the long post and any suggestions are welcome! Thanks a ton :)

This should meet your needs, decent gaming speed, IPS 1080 screen, SSD and enough RAM. Price now is about $25 under what it usually is I don't think it has an optical drive, if you really need one you can get an external and use it when you need it, no need to have the extra weight for one if you don't use it much.
