My netbook is the hp mini 210-1155DX. I searched crucial.com and found this 2gb ram stick http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=1BC4A9F1A5CA7304 Then I went to newegg and puchased this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231339&Tpk=20-231-339 I tried the ram from newegg today but the netbook screen remains black. I checked again the specs with the one from crucial and they seem correct but I must be missing the difference. Anyone have any ideas on what my mistake is?

Solution
Put in the old RAM, update the BIOS, try the new RAM again. If that does not work, either the RAM you got is bad, or it's not fully compatable with your system. I have seen some instances where a stick of RAM will just not work in certain models of computers. Why don't you just buy it from crucial since that one is shown to work for your system and you can get support for that.

thanks. i see a bios update is available so i will try. i bought it from newegg because i read good things about GSkill ram. Someone else told me that they think the problem is that the densities are a little different. The one I bought has 8 memory chips and the Crucial one has 4.

The density may cause an issue, but a BIOS update may clear that up. If not, go with the Crucial RAM. Crucial has always been one of my "go-to" memory companies, they have a good reputation as well.
