I can't take my gaming tower with me to college so I want to get a nice gaming laptop that will last. Are Alienware 15 laptops reliable and good? The price cap is around 3,000 US dollars.

Solution
They are decent.

Why not build a PC for the dorm, and use something like a chromebook for classes?

Here are laptops within $3000 which are good for gaming:

GTX 1080Ti and 8700k blow any of those laptops out of the water. Very good monitor, pretty good peripherals. Quality PSU and Case. OS included.

Here is a laptop:

Dell XPS laptop. Pretty good for school.

My bad. I thought I read someone mentioning ordering through HID

Edit: I saw one of the amazon links was an HIDevolution build. That’s what it was.

Ah okay. As per your experience, I am removing that from the list.

What is the point of doing that? That is literally a waste of money and you are better off spending the entire $3k on the laptop itself because that will give you much better performance than a $500 PC.

If you allocate $500 to laptop and rest to PC you are making better use of your money. Heck, taking the laptop budget to $800 or even $1000 and using the rest for the PC will still give you VERY good builds.
