Solved! New home has 2 ethernet sockets in every room with wires leading back to a central point. What to do with the 2nd connection?

We've just moved into a new house. The previous owners have wired up the house with Cat 5 (or 6?) cables, where next to every tv point there are 2 ethernet sockets. We've identified that all the cables lead back to a central cupboard which is home to the router point and the tv aerial distribution amplifier.

We figured one of these ethernet connections would just be used for a wired internet connection to each room, so we've bought an ethernet switch and that all works fine and the internet is now working great in all the rooms.

We now have no idea what to do with the second connection. Could anyone provide any recommendations on what we could use it for? Someone suggested it may have been used with Sky TV but we have no idea how we would go about getting that connected up to play independently in each room. Would we need multiple boxes?

Any help would be appreciated.

It is possible to use a one (or two) CAT6 cable as HDMI with converters at both ends.
CAT6 is much much cheaper than long HDMI cables. There are HDMI selectors and distribution amplifiers with built in converters.
You can set up multiple sources in the cupboard and access them in any combination of rooms with an HDMI matrix switcher.

Wouldn't TV/Cable require coaxial cable? Perhaps the second ethernet was just for extra convenience? Maybe the last family was REALLY connected. Maybe they had wired home security? Cameras, etc?

You don't need to do anything with them, they'll sit there forever happily doing nothing.
