New iPod Shuffle-$79, 4GB, Headphone controls

Apple released a new iPod Shuffle today. It costs $79, contains 4GB of storage, and is tinier than tiny. Because it is so small, there is virtually no room for controls on the device. Apple packages its own (some would say low-quality) headphones with the Shuffle, which have playback controls built in to the headphones. Not that many other headphones on the market have these headphone built-in controls, meaning most people will be stuck with Apple's headphones. Do you think this shows that Apple has no respect for the audiophile community and is "dumbing down" audio quality for the masses? Or, for a $79 Mp3 player, do you think it is just fine to use Apple's low-quality headphones?

Yes and they have the cheek to charge $90 for the thing in the UK.

For that you could buy nearly two brand name players which actually have a screen.

What you don't mention is it uses a voice to tell you which folder or track you are on which means it is slightly more usable than the hopeless current Shuffle. But really only good for those with impaired eyesight.

A simple way to use your own headphones with the Apple shuffle 4 gb 3rd generation player is to use a splitter with the apple headphones on one side & your superior headphones on the other. Simple but effective.!
