hello, I have a new lenovo 720 with a lithium ion battery and was looking for a how to condition a new battery post but really cannot find anything definitive - so far i brought it home plugged it in and set it up then it showed its factory pre charge over 60 percent and was fully charged within an hour so I drained it playing video overnight - got like 10 hours out of it and now its back charging and turned off - should I cycle it like this a couple of more times? if it says 100 percent should I go over and keep charging for the first few times? thank you, lots of confusing info out there

I believe Lenovo laptops comes with battery manager that generally limits the battery charge to 60% or 80% or whatever value you prefer to use. To charge it up to 100% you would need to manually override the setting. Having said that, it is best not to charge up the battery to 100% unless you are going to be using it away from the A/C outlet. If you want to cycle between 100% and fully drained, I would not bother doing it more than a few times. Afterward, do not allow the battery to charge to 100% unless you are taking it out of the house / office.

Empirical evidence has shown that when a lithium ion battery is close to a full charge a chemical reaction referred to as lithium ion plating occurs. It is a process where lithium ions begins to clump together to form plates. Lithium ions allows the battery to hold a charge, but when they combine to form "plates" they can no longer hold a charge. When this happens the amount of power the battery can store begins to drop which naturally means shorter battery life. The closer the battery is to it's maximum capacity, the more likely lithium ion plates will begin to form. Therefore, it recommended that you allow the battery to charge up to 100% unless you need to rely on the battery to power the laptop.

thank you for your answer jaguarskx,

the purpose of these small laptops is to be able to run them with no power for as long as possible

so, yes I would like to condition the battery for this--so far I cannot find the power manager utility on this PC (lenovo 720) anyway, its back on again and plugged in and at 100% now

Ive done one complete charge and drain so far
