new VGA , black screen

i was fixing a system with nvidia 9300, i had to use another VGA , nvidia 8600 (9300 was broken)
i know both of them are rly old.
here is the problem, cant get picture after bios Boots, i am sure that 8600 is fine, i am sure the system is fine and just have a almost broken GPU ( with horizental line)

any idea what cause this problem?
oS:win7x86/2GB ram/ a celeron CPU i guess

Do you get a picture in BIOS?

try booting with ubuntu live

Are you saying the 8600 is working but has lines or are you saying there is no image at all after BIOS? If you have an image with lines, then either the card is bad or it does not work in your laptop model properly.
