Well... the original XBOX small controller was called the S

many people were waiting for a slim version and it never happened. That system was a big ugly sucker. Only way to easily make it look better was to swap out the plastic for a different color. I did that and dumped the ugly black plastic at the recycling center.

I enjoy both systems, but I would like to mention that Sony has had a bad reputation with it's console's CD/DVD drives. Both companies have seen equal amounts of manufacturing defects that really should have been recalled. I even have a Wii, and although its definitely not the entertainment of choice for myself, it hasn't done anything just yet. That said of course, I still remember all the trying times I had blowing into the old nintendo cartridges, but I imagine that Nintendo learned a great deal with its longer time in the market. I'll definately be looking forward to the next generation's reliability!

[citation][nom]xbeater[/nom]I thought it was actually much smaller than the original, until I looked closely at the picture. I thought that the big port above the HDMI port was the HDMI port...Anyways I was already wondering why everybody was calling it the slim in the first place, since it was never called such.oh, and nice of them to give optical audio, although I have my doubts that it will be proper Dolby Digital 5.1, it will likely just be stereo.[/citation]

You obviously don't own a 360. The big trapezoid connector on top of the HDMI is for the analog cable connection for component/composite a/v cable(or optional vga cable with L & R rca audio cables) hook up.

Second of all on the old 360's the composite/component cable the plug that plugs into the trapezoid shape connector had the spdif out optical connection on it.

The new 360 has it's own dedicated optical output as noted in the picture above

The old 360 is only capable of dolby digital 5.1.

What makes you think the new 360 will only do stereo over optical?

[citation][nom]Maxor127[/nom]$200 plus $ for extra controllers, a decent HD TV if you don't have one, and bullshit Xbox Live fees if you plan on playing online. About the only thing this new version has going for it is built in Wi-Fi, so I'm assuming no more $80 ripoff adapter. If you don't plan on playing online, 360 is a good deal. Otherwise PS3 is a better deal. Motion controls are going to suck for both. If that's what you care about, then you're better off getting a Wii.PCs are better though. Clueless people like to claim that you have to spend $1000 every year or 2 years, but that's BS. I'd say 3 years tops, and a couple key upgrades could bring it back up to date instead of getting a whole new rig. But the main benefit of PCs besides that their graphically superior, have better controls, and superior online options is that computers can do more than just play games. Chances are you'll need a PC anyways to surf the internet, do work, check email, and the dozens of other things you can do on a PC.The only advantage consoles have over PCs are exclusives. They have lots of games that you'll never see on a PC. But if you're a serious gamer, you'll have all of the major consoles plus a PC.[/citation]

Correction: Clueless people think that a smug sense of superiority makes them right about everything. Just because you repeat "PCs are better, PCs are better, PCs are better" doesn't make it magically come true. PCs are great for some, consoles are great for others. You toolbags need to get over yourselves if you think your wants are the same as everyone elses' on the planet. End of story.

Well, I have everything. (Including the New Xbox "S" (Traded it in for an original from the mountain dew win one every 10 mins) I like the new one.. It is hella quiet. Its actually quieter than my ps3 slim. That is a kinect port you see about the e/net. The built in WIFI is N btw... I had a flood in my basement so computer has been out of service for 5 weeks (didnt get wet, just no room to plug it up at) and the PS3 and xbox 360 has gotten me through the weeks.

Only wish: Component out on the new xbox 360. It doesnt come with a cable! just crappy standard def composite. My 65" HDTV is older and doesnt have HDMI.

Everyone ripping on it's reliability realize this uses 20% less power than the FIXED newer Xbox's? HALF the power of the original ones that had RROD issues... I don't own a console and I still managed to read that before attacking it. Sounds like more than just polishing a turd to me anyway!

As a Playstation Fan, this thing looks sexxy. They took a page out of Sony's book for looks. If I ever did want a 360, it would be this one.

@Joe while I think soldier is nothing but a tool. A pc is way better then a console. Period. And a gaming rig can usually do a whole lot more then just game. I easily made my money back on my computer. I'd like to see you do that on a console.

[citation][nom]flybri[/nom]It's not a DisplayPort, it's a port for Kinect[/citation]
Awe damn. 🙁
Pick me up just to knock me down. Could DisplayPort become a standard already please? I really want the next revision to come in so I can daisy chain a single video cable to three monitors.

[citation][nom]insider3[/nom]PS3 owner here, not a fan boy though (kinda grown for that stuff). After seeing that Kinect sensor demonstrated, I've been leaning towards purchasing an Xbox360. Looks more promising than the Move to be honest, and this system seems pretty well built and complete compared to the bigger version.[/citation]

Took the words right outta my mouth man.

I don't understand this RRoD deal. I had it 5 times over four years. Yes, it's inconvenient. But I've never had to pay for any of those repairs and replacements so unless these people you are referring to stole the console, they should be able to provide the information necessary to qualify for a free repair/replacement. MS realized they made a faulty console and I think they compensated very well for their faults.
