i noe that Nforce2 boards will unlock Tbred cores, but what about Palominos? im going to be using my palomino (goes to 1.9ghz, good enough for another month or when i can afford a 2500+M) so whats the dilly?

I *think* they only unlock Tbreds and the older Bartons. I have a 1600+ Pally running at 1.83GHz with multipliers up to 12.5x, but I did the L1 bridge mod long before I got the NF7-S. If I had anymore conductive paint, I'd undo the L1 connections and test it. Spitfire was running a 1700+ Palomino for awhile in his NF7, you might want to ask him if he could change the multis.

thanks

meh, unlocking the chip itself is easy enough. ill just do that if need be, takes 10 mins

Whoa. I guess I have all the multipliers. I just booted up with 13.5. That never worked when I first got this board.

I've used a Palomino AXP 1700+ with ABIT NF7 v2.0. It can't unlock Palomino

nv400? no, even tho that board would probably be a tad bit quicker, this board has so much more like sata, soundstorm etc... and its one of the best overclocking boards as well, so meh i dont think ill notice the 3% difference

well earlier you seemed to have your heart set on that anyhow, good luck with the upgrade and happy overclocking.

ps your those pics you sent are so sexy

Hey looks like the new KT880 may be a better buy than the NV 400 Ultra. Some benchies show it driving over the NV 400 Ultra like an on-die mem controller would (the MP3 encoding test).

nForce2 Ultra400 is still the best chipset for Socket 462. The performance difference is ignorable. Sometimes NF2 performs higher, sometimes KT880 and sometimes both are equal. nForce2 is around for ~1.5 year and a proven reliable platform.

And VIA chipsets don't have PCI bus lock. PCI bus lock is a great thing to have for overclockers.

LO the new VIA board STILL HAS a locked PCI bus? there goes most of its usefullness

they wont sell a single board :)

Do you have any proof that new VIA KT880-based mainboards will not support a PCI Bus Lock?

I haven't read anything about PCI bus lock in KT880. And no VIA chipsets so far had PCI bus lock.

Urm I thought such features were related to the motherboard BIOS and not the chipset itself?

The chipset has to support it first, then it's up to the motherboard manufacturers to properly support the locks/dividers through their BIOS. As of now, the VIA chipsets only allow dividers.
