Nikon Capture 4.2/4.3 opens all images as white

Hi folks,

Just bought Nikon Capture 4.2 today, but when I open any NEF or JPG image
with it, the progress meters come up all right, but then the window opens up
and...

The image is all white. There's nothing there. Yet, the image settings
information does show. Updating to Capture 4.3 didn't solve the problem.
I've got a 3.0 GHz computer, with 1 GB of RAM.

These images all open with Nikon View and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2. And
when I try to open NEFs with Capture's multi-image window, they DO show up,
but I can't do anything with them.

Any suggestions? I'd hate to think I just blew $130 on something that
doesn't work at all.

Open the Capture Editor and Go to Tools => Options

Start with General Make sure the User Default image adjustment is pointing
to the Neutral.set file (full path) in the Capture4 directory.

Next go to Color Management and Make sure the Default RGB color space
option is pointing (full path again) to the NKsRGB.icm file, in my case
it's in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nikon\Profiles\NKsRGB.icm

Also make sure you have the proper monitor profile set up in Windows.

Bird's Eye View is in Pallet 1 in my copy. Do you have a copy of NikonView
or Picture Project installed.? There may be a conflict depending upon the
version. You can find the conflict info on the NikonUSA Tech Support site.

please be sure that you are using Nikon View version 6.2.0 or later for

Okay, so it turns out that if I played with the software (NVIDIA) and
hardware (NEC) controls for my video card and flat-screen monitor, voila,
Nikon Capture suddenly works perfectly. I don't know which calibration
actually fixed the problem (I was just minutely changing some settings), but
when I tried Capture later, it worked perfectly.
