I've gave up solving it some time ago but today i found my old coolpix l21 resting alone in an toolbox and i was wondering if i can fix it. It stopped working after using a damaged data transfer cable. It won't turn on, no matter what i try to do. It acted weirdly when it would've turned on, like not reading the sd card or not turning on at all when inserting the sd card. Now, i disassembled the camera and it's just the internal. When i insert the batteries, i hear a fast clicking noise, can't actually notice from where exactly it comes, i suppose it's something related to the zoom-ing engine or whatever and if i roll over the batteries, sometimes the clicks get even faster. I have no idea what could be the cause of that, but it seeems it's not dead at all.

Solution
You disassembled it, so now it's worthless. Go buy a new one.

From the sound of it, it's probably a fried mainboard or internal failsafe if the IS/autofocus/zoom mechanism is broken. Either way, that camera is now junk bin material
