I can't help but feel that this is just some sort of cash grab since the DSi is already in production and sold in Japan.

Granted, the DSi production probably wouldn't be able to keep up with American holiday demand anyway, and Nintendo will sell a crazy amount of DS Lites this holiday.

I wonder how many would-be DS purchasers would hold off on buying one of these if Nintendo made it clear in the U.S. market that newer hardware will be out next year.

I don't understand the DSi personally. It adds a bunch of features that aren't standard, even though it isn't a new console, just a new iteration. And the lack of GBA port means it not only has no BC (downside in my mind), it makes it incompatible with some DS games and accessories.

So now we have 2 products that look the same, play some of the same games, have extremely similar names, but game for one won't work on the other?
