Hello
I replaced my hard drive on my HP laptop and and tried to install windows 7 from DVD I have but it's asking for boot disk which I don't have. The old hard drive was shot.

"No bootalbe device--insert boot disk and press any key"

any idea what I can do to fix?
Thank you
Sue

try your win7 dvd on another computer to make certain it can boot. it is possible your dvd drive is shot so might try get another optical drive or an external optical drive.

Hi there HDHELP,

I would agree with ffg7.
Also, you need to make sure that the DVD is your first boot option. You need to go to BIOS and adjust the boot order.

Hope this will help,

It does sound as though the DVD drive is not being recognized by the BIOS. Set the BIOS so the DVD is the first drive or there may be an option to select the drive from the BIOS or by pressing shortcut key at startup. (I have F11 key on one machine and F12 on another which bring up a BIOS boot drive select menu.)

Also check that your new drive is visible in the BIOS. If it is not it is either faulty or not installed correctly.
