No HDMI sound to receiver from laptop

My Onkyo SR605 will not play sound when connected to my HP-G62 laptop via HDMI.
If I connect my laptop straight to my TV I get sound from my TV speakers and if I connect my playbook to my receiver I get sound from my receiver no problem so I cant understand why the receiver and laptop wont work together.
Anyone have any ideas?

I checked my settings and turned the HDMI output to default on my laptop but still no change. As I mentioned, the sound does work if I go straight to the TV, so the sound must be outputting from my laptop ok.
I also just found that if I turn the 'monitor output' to off on my receiver, then the sound does work but then I cant get a picture on my TV.
I would say its my receiver at fault but my tablet and phone work with no problems.
Starting to think it may be the type of sound my laptop is sending out.
