No image from projector

Hi my brand new projector doesn't project any image it's just a blur , when ihooked it to the laptop there was sound but just a blur. Have adjusted all the settings re focus etc bit no avail. Any help, greatly appreciated.

What is the laptop model number?
What is the projector model number?
How are you attempting to connect the two?
