I know the HK release topped $600+ before but this is going a little
bit too far... (not my auction)

That probably explains the $400 difference.

It probably won't sell, so don't get your undies in a bunch. However,
I'm sure that if someone was to inquire about the bootleg DVD-R copy,
the seller wouldn't mind making an "on the side" transaction for it!
I sold my Japanese Make Mine Music and Melody Time LDs last spring
(you even bid on one or both of them IIRC!) with the stipulation that
I would be including a fair-use DVD-R copy of the films to the winner.
I received multiple e-mails through eBay's server inquiring about the
DVD-R copies separate from the LDs... Only a small percentage
inquired about the LDs themselves.

And on an interesting note, this is a release from Hong Kong, but the
disc was pressed by Pioneer USA. I think this is the first time I've
seen a title from the Pacific be pressed in the US.

It has even been a common tactic by bootleggers to purposedly list the
LD at an unrealistic high price to draw traffic to their direct DVD-R
sales, one other variant being to list low but with a very high
reserve.

At one stage eBay will lock all direct communications (all will have
to go through the internal message system) and they might want to
monitor the message contents for keywords such as "DVD-R".

I know they do that for listings already, as once i listed an LD with
a photocopy of the insert (original insert was lost) and eBay pulled
my listing even before it started (it was still pending), reason being
the word "copy".

Yes, it's called a "Thayer" or a "Thayerism." ;-) I still remember
owning AND possessing my MMM and MT Japanese LDs at the same time that
he was auctioning them off!

PILP-1010 (Madonna Blond Ambition, filmed in Nice) is a Japan release
but actually a repackage of the identical PA-90-325 US issue, they've
just added a sticker or two:

Another case is the Video Essentials Japanese edition, made in the
USA, though this one doesn't come with a Japanese number and therefore
could be said to be a pure US release.

How can you tell? All of my old Disney HK laserdiscs, including Song
of the South, look the same. Distributed by IVL, with their telephone
# and fax # printed on the jacket and disc. Were all of those old
Disney HK titles pressed in the US?

It didn't sell at that price, but the seller brought it down to $1,100
on his relist:

Bernie sold one for $1,300 a couple of years ago, but his starting
price was a lot lower than $1,100 IIRC.
