No more sound

I have a Sony 50" flat screen tv. All I have hooked up to it is a standard cable box. One day the sound went out. I was able to kinda tap the back and the sound came back. Then later it went back out for good. Will I have to have it repaired? Or is there away to hook up some other component like surround sound or some kind of external speaker to be able to hear sound again?

You could try connecting a soundbar or powered speakers to the cable box directly. Make sure that the audio out is compatible with the new setup.
If tapping brought the sound back you may just have a bad solder connection which would not be too pricey to fix.
