Hello- I am very near purchasing one of these, unlocked, to use with my
cingular acct and SIM card from my old phone (6340.) I have a good plan right
now with cingular (no contract) and I'd like to add the media works with the
new phone. My main need is that the phone will work in italy (as well as the
US) and that i will be able to send and recieve AOL email while on the road.
I am confused about the cingular fine print, which states that the media works
is not avail on pda devices, included symbian which I think is what the 6820
uses as an OS. Yes, I would love to ask cingular, but I just don't have an hour
or two to hang around the store or on the phone. Sadly, they have the best
coverage in these parts. However, I am open to other suggestions that meet my
simple needs.

Media Works=any internet accessed directly from the device the SIM is
in.
You will be charged per kb for data using tethered device using
GPRS(If you have media works plan).
You will be charged your minutes if you use the CSD (calling your own
ISP).
And you are right, MOST (not all) of the people in customer service
and even tech support don't know what they are doing.

I even had one tech tell me you can't use data and voice on the same
phone. Told me I must buy two phones/2 contracts.

Give it a try -- I've been averaging only about 2 minutes on hold to Cingular
Customer Service.

Media Works <http/www.cingular.com/media/media_purchase> is unlimited data.
There is no "tethered" device surcharge with Cingular -- perhaps you're
thinking of ATTWS.

Yes -- forget Cingular for asking questions -- I cant figure out why
they dont want to sell data plans?

For Italy be sure you get the 850/1800/1900 frequency support for your
new phone -- the 1800 will be used there --- also use an unlocked phone
if you want to be able to use cheap minutes via a SIM card you buy in
Italy

For the data connection you will not be able to use CSD connections
with the Cingular "Media" plans -- But GPRS will work and is faster --
and you may be able to even use EDGE -- if your phone has it and
Cingular has turned in on in your area -- it coming to most ares ---
