Non HD tv and hdmi

Do I need HD tv to use my DVD player? I have HDMI connections on both devices, but I can't get anything. I have the input selection on HDMI. I have a flat screen tv, but I don't want to pay $10 a month for HD.

You don't need an HD TV to use a DVD player.
Try a different HDMI cable.
Try a different HDMI input on the TV if it has more than 1.
Try the DVD on another TV. If it works then change the video resolution to match your TV.
