non system disk or disk error

I have an hp laptop, pretty old, got it about 3 years ago, and when i turn it on it gives me an option of f9= boot device menu or f10=Rom based setup and neither seem to work, when i wait 10 seconds without clicking anything, it says non system disk or disk error, replace and strike any key when ready - and that's it, I don't know what to do!!! help!!
