Hi there. I recently picked up a copy of Norton AntiVirus 2010 that was sealed, new. The CD was sealed in its little paper case too.
However, when I went to activate it (why would I use AntiVirus 2010? I don't know) it claimed that the product key had expired and couldn't be used.

Now, I have a basic understanding of how Norton activates itself:
Step 1: Enter product key
Step 2: Connect to Norton Activation Servers
Step 3: Validate key
Step 4: Activate (if the key is valid)
Step 4 (alternate): Reject key if invalid

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I've got no clue to what is going wrong here, so help would be appreciated.

No certainty that Norton will allow a 'still new/valid install and activation' of an 8 year old product, I'm afraid....

I'd contact Norton /Symantec support.....

Alrighty then, I'll try and find the time to talk to Norton Support about it... the thing is, do I need a Norton Account to talk to them? I've used Norton before, but I've never had to go to the support team.

I was just rereading your initial post...

If you got an advisory during attempted activation about the key being expired and unusable, that would explain a lot...

Not looking very hopeful....
