i am looking to buy my son a gaming laptop for xmas with a budget of 480 pound.would the geforce gt 620 to play most games black ops etc

Nope, it wouldn't... It's a mid level class 3 graphics card. It won't play recent games at all, even on low. You'll get frames/lag. You need to spend more than 480 pounds for a gaming laptop.
