Sad day to be an American, I get that he is protecting an American companies interests, but at the same time he is basically enabling Apple (and other huge tech giants) to miss-use the patent system and letting them know that they will not be held accountable. It was within his right, and the law to do what he did, but it sets a standard and has turned a legal/market issue into a political one.

What is the point of the ITC if it can be vetoed? The point of a presidential override should be for things like death penalty cases. Well Steve Jobs is already dead so that horse has already bolted.

It actually was the President of the ITC who vetoed it, not Obama. The President of the ITC determined that Apple filed to license those patents from Samsung but instead, Samsung wouldn't license them without requiring Apple to give them free access to some of theirs. Since this is obviously not a universal requirement and Samsung specifically wanted to make it harder for Apple to license them than any other company it contracts with, the President of the ITC decided to Veto the ban and call the abuse in favor of Apple.

Actually, Samsung was being leanient on the patent infringements by Apple until Apple sued them. Apple thinks Samsung owes them 2.5B or $26.02 per samsung device sold for infringing on their patents (rectangle with round corners is apparently worth $24 per device and "bounce back" that was stolen from adobe is worth $2.02), while at the same time only owing Samsung $0.0049 per iphone sold for stealing Samsung's patent.

Samsung's responce? FU apple, you want $26, we want $10 then. Apple simply refused to pay and stole the patent for free.
