just got a new computer running windows 8-1 and I have an old Panasonic DV camcorder NV- MX 300 . . . cannot find a firewire card for computer im not throwing away a perfectly good camera anyone got any solutions to this is there another way of transferring my footage into my computer

You need a video capture device for your PC. Not sure if it has Windows 8.1 drivers, but if it does and you have an available PCI expansion slot, something like this Hauppauge ImpactVCB should work for you.

Note: You need an older standard PCI slot. PCI-E slots are not compatible with this card.

This Microsoft blog talks alot about 8.1 and firewire.

Microsoft made a standalone driver available according to that article. If you have a firewire card already, it would be worth a try.
